REPORT ON FOOTWEAR COMPONENTS AND ACCESSORIES EXHIBITION 4,5 NOV 2006
ORGANISED BY INDIAN SHOE FEDERATION & INDIAN FOOTWEAR COMPONENT MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION

 
The Footwear Components and Accessories Exhibition was jointly organized by Indian Shoe Federation and Indian Footwear Component Manufacturers Association at Rajah Muthiah Hall on 4,5 Nov 2006. This is the first time that both these organizations have come together to organize such an exhibition. The fair was inaugurated by Mr. M Rafeeque Ahmed, Chairman, Council for Leather Exports on 4 Nov 2006. Dr. Zackria Sait, Chairman, IFLMEA, Mr. PR Aqeel Ahmed, President, ISF and Mr. Mani Almal, President, IFCOMA also spoke on various issues affecting the footwear and footwear component industry. Following points were emphasized by the speakers.
  • Need for Intellectual Property Rights and Social Accountability.
  • Need for growth of the footwear component industry.
  • Need for such focused expositions.
  • Projected growth of leather industry to USD 7 Billion from the present USD 2.6 Billion and growth of footwear industry to USD 4 Billion which will provide a huge opportunity for the footwear component industry.
  • Need for establishment of Component Parks and Footwear Parks to facilitate the projected growth of the footwear industry.
  • Need for cost competitiveness of the components.
Welcoming the guests, Mr. P. R. Aqeel Ahmed, President, ISF impressed upon the industry to focus on two areas for progress – Intellectual Property rights and social accountability. He stressed that copyright and confidentiality of pattern and designs were needed for foreign companies to show an interest in the products and touched upon the code of practice of employment, wages, ban on child labor and other issues of key importance to beat China and other Asian Companies in the export market. Mr. Jwahar Sircar, IAS, Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner of Ministry of Small Scale Industry, Government of India, New Delhi being welcomed by Mr. Mani Almal, President, IFCOMA & Mr. B. D. Bhaiya, Vice President (East), IFCOMA.
Mr. Aqeel Ahmed recalled that if you cannot sense the customer's requirement – you cannot sell them. Dr. K. Elangovan, ED, CLE homed on the growth of industry. He stressed that footwear component industry has to grow along with the footwear industry for having an impact on the international market.

He stated that Indian Footwear Industry had two options Either to move up the Volume Chain (where China is the leader) or the Value Chain (ruled by Italy). He expressed that Italians are at the top because of their attention to details.
