While delivering his keynote address, the Chief Guest Shri Rajeev Lakhara highlighted the challenges in front of the
industry. He impressed that China is leading ahead due to its high quality products at lower cost where as the same products
are costlier in India. To withstand the global competition, there is a need to provide better quality at lower cost.
Commenting on the increasing developments in South, he called upon footwear industry in Agra to strive hard in facing the
present challenges. Terming the future of industry as ‘bright’, he expressed that footwear industry is now aligning with the
fashion industry and there is a need for designers for which an institute is being established within a year with foreign
experts for teaching. He stated that some of the renowned international players in the footwear industry have been looking at
India for sourcing out their bulk requirements.

But the Indian Industry was not ready to take up the additional requirement
and asked the industry to work hard and grow together to take up the challenge of grabbing those additional opportunities and
convert Agra into a Shoe Capital.
Shri Jagdish Arora, President AFMEC, recalled the technicalities on growth. He stated that Indian exports were dismal 1%
against Chinese export of 60% at the global stage. Agra shared 22% of the total exports from India and is presently demanding
a SEZ for boosting export oriented growth.

During the inauguration, Shri Om Prakash Mahajan, a veteran exporter from Agra was felicitated with "IFCOMA Excellence Award"
for his 30 years contribution to the Shoe Industry. While Shri Rajeev Lakhara presented him the Award, Shri Raj Babbar honoured him with a Shawl. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Om Prakash Mahajan gave nostalgic reference to his association with
the footwear industry in Agra for last three decades. He stated that a person is recognized with the type of shoe he wears
which has to undergo several processes before its final finish and needed around 106 components.

During the event, several other dignitaries i.e. Shri Puran Dawar, Shri Tarik Jamal, Shri Mohan Chabbra, Shri Rishi Mahajan,
Shri R. K. Shukla, Shri G. P. Aggarwal and Mr. Jong Ook Hur of Korea were also felicitated with bouquets by Shri Vipan Seth
and Shri Ketan Sanghavi.
Mr. Vikas Rathi, Jt. Secretary, IFCOMA and BSM Convener gave the vote of thanks. Shri Ranjeev Kochher had coordinated the event.
