In his address President PFMA, Mr. Wasim Zakaria highlighted the growth of Pakistan. He said that post 9/11 era Pakistan Footwear Industry had to face heavy odds but still the Industry has exhibited phenomenal growth from US Dollar 37 million in the year 2001 to almost US Dollar 100 million dollar in the current fiscal 2005. The duty drawback rates have come down from 11% to 5%.
Even in the domestic front in spite of heavy Chinese competition the Industry has been progressing very well. International brands of the repute Pierre Cardin, Nike, Reebok, Slazenzer, Bally. Hush Puppies have successes to establish in Pakistan.

He stressed on the fact that in order to access competitive & quality raw materials & footwear components from India, Pakistan Government must allow the import of these components as listed in the submission to the relevant authorities. He wished the participants and Exhibitors a very successful JUFT.
Major(R) Haroon Rashid, Director General, Exports Promotion Bureau expressed his views on the footwear sector growth. He opined that footwear is a productive sector & with the liberalization in place there is a phenomenal growth expected to be achieve in the coming years.

Pakistan is the founder member of GATT & also a WTO member. Our objective is to provide sustainable growth & compete globally.
He said although footwear manufactures & exporters have been doing a commendable job however they should focus on value addition to their product range. The Pakistan Government is seriously working on simplifying the trade formalities to facilitate the promotion of exports.

in his brief address said that he is delighted to learn that Pakistan Footwear Industry is showing tremendous performance & entry of recognized international brands into Pakistan shows a good competitive trend & the growth of Pakistan footwear trade. He praised the IFCOMA led delegation for their interest in JUFT show.
He assured that all points rose by PEMA President would be taken care of. He observed that the Exports from Pakistan have grown & the performance of the Pakistan Footwear manufacturing Industry deserves all the praise 21% exports growth have been registered aft the tariff re-structuring. Local Industry needs to be given Shelter to facilitate its growth.
