He stressed on the fact that in order to access competitive & quality raw materials & footwear components from India, Pakistan Government must allow the import of these components as listed in the submission to the relevant authorities.

Major (Retd) Haroon Rashid, Director General, Exports Promotion Bureau expressed his views on the footwear sector growth. He opined that footwear is a productive sector and with the liberalization in place there is a phenomenal growth expected to be achieved in the coming years. He said although footwear manufacturers and exporters have been doing a commendable job however they should focus on value addition to their product range.

Mr. Hamid Yar Hiraj, Minister of State for Commerce in his brief address said that he is delighted to learn that Pakistan Footwear Industry is showing tremendous performance and entry of recognized international brands into Pakistan shows a good competitive trend and the growth of Pakistan footwear trade. He praised the IFCOMA led delegation for their interest in the JUFT Show.

He underlined the need of improving relationship with India by resolving issues of importance and suggested the industries to send proposals with firm plan to boost exports. He promised that the Government will help the industry to fulfill its urge to improve and perform better. He reiterated that the Pakistan Government is keen to open Wagah border and allow specific products which is mutually beneficial for both the countries. "We enjoy same culture, language and food habits with India and this should rather be considered effective tools to boost economic ties".

He was categorical in saying that Pakistan bars no country including India from investing under foreign direct investment. He emphasized that Pakistan companies should go ahead with Joint Ventures with Indian Companies. Both the countries (India & Pakistan) would have competitive edge if they pool in their resources.

Honorable Minister inaugurated the JUFT Exhibition by cutting the ribbon. He took a round of the exhibition and took keen interest in understanding the various products. During his visit to Indian stand, Mr. Almal made him updated on the importance of every footwear components with emphasis on its quality and ready availability.

During the fair Mr. Nasir Rafiq, Manager Exports of Bata Pakistan Limited said Indian Vendor Industry of shoe manufacturing components is very strong and Pakistan leather is number one in the world. He said that Pakistan producers have been importing 80% components from various countries of the world while India has been exporting the same components to the whole world. Therefore he observed that if the government includes all the basic 31 shoe-making components into the importable list of items list from India then the production of local shoe industry would greatly benefit.
